Treatment: Gemmy actinolite is not treated. However, its fibrous form in nephrite jade is often waxed or impregnated to improve luster and stability. Green quartz (prasiolite) is often created by heat-treating amethyst containing actinolite inclusions.
Body (Clarity/Appearance): Transparent gem crystals are very rare. They are typically transparent to translucent with a vitreous luster. The most famous gem variety is the chatoyant Actinolite Cat’s Eye, where parallel fibers create a sharp silky band. It has perfect cleavage in two directions and is brittle. Colors range from medium to dark green (due to iron), gray-green, to almost black.
