Treatment: Bloodstone is generally not treated. Its stable, natural colors rarely need enhancement. However, lower-quality stones may be dyed to intensify either the green base or the red spots, and such material should be disclosed as treated.
Body (Clarity/Appearance): Bloodstone is opaque with a dull to waxy luster when polished. Its “body” is defined by the contrast between its deep green plasma base (sometimes with white chalcedony spots) and the size, brightness, and distribution of its red “blood” inclusions. It has no cleavage, is quite tough due to its microcrystalline structure, and is often carved into cameos, beads, and cabochons.
