Treatment: Treatment is a major value factor. The vast majority are heated:
Heating (Traditional): Expected to improve color and clarity. Permanently accepted if disclosed.
“No Heat”: Untreated stones with fine color are rare and command a large premium.
Diffusion-Treated: Blue color only on surface; low value.
Fracture Filled: With glass/lead glass to improve clarity; requires special care.
Body (Clarity/Appearance): Blue sapphire is a Type II gem, meaning some inclusions are expected. The finest have high transparency, a vitreous luster, and an even, saturated color without zoning. Top color grades are “Royal Blue” (vivid, deep blue) and “Cornflower Blue” (bright, medium blue).
