Treatment: Treatment is critical to value. Most rubies are treated:
Heating: Universal to improve color (remove purple) and clarity.
Fracture Filling: With lead glass to hide cracks. Greatly lowers value.
Flux Healing: High-temperature healing of fractures. More stable than glass.
“No Heat” rubies of fine color are exceptionally rare and valuable.
Body (Clarity/Appearance): Ruby is a Type II gem, meaning inclusions are common. Fine stones have high transparency and vivid color saturation. The ideal “pigeon’s blood” is a medium-dark tone with strong red fluorescence. Silk inclusions can soften color but shouldn’t cause haziness.
